These images were all taken for Mercy Project, a non-profit based in Texas, working in Ghana to free children from slavery through economic development. The organization partners with fishing communities on the lake, teaching them aquaculture (cage fishing) to replace their use of child labor. Upon voluntarily release by the village, the trafficked children transition through a rehabilitation shelter before being reintegrated with their families. Once reunited, the families are empowered by Mercy Project through a microloan system to ensure long-term sustainable care; through sponsorship, the children are able to attend school and gain new life. The process is unique, holistic, and sustainable. Read more here. These are the many faces of freedom.
